BASIC SWAT COURSE

Date:   October 9th through October 13th, 2017

Tuition:    $250 (Group discounts will apply for more than two officers from the same agency)

Course Details:    This course is designed for individuals who have recently been assigned to a SWAT team and have little to no SWAT training. The course is a 5 day (50+ hours) course with 2 low light training evolutions (Monday and Wednesday evening). The course will begin on Monday morning at 0800, students are to be seated in the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Firearms Training Facility classroom.

Course Topics:    The course will include, but is not limited to:

  • Firearms (pistol and carbine) day and night
  • SWAT Firearms Test (Combined pistol and carbine course)
  • Close Quarters Battle (CQB) day and night
  • Mechanical Breaching
  • SWAT Member Medical
  • SWAT Legal Issues
  • Response to a Barricade Incident
  • Response to a Hostage Incident
  • High-Risk Warrant Service

 

  • Prerequisites:       Students will:
  • Be a peace officer or active military personnel and be able to provide agency ID on the first day of the course.
  • Have a POST certification with the pistol and carbine
  • Have carbines zeroed at 50 yards prior to arrival.
  • Have weapon mounted flashlights for low light training.
  • Be able to physically work long hours in adverse conditions.
  • Equipment:          Students will need individual equipment used for SWAT operations to include: 
  • SWAT uniform(s)
  • Body armor (with rifle plates front and rear)
  • Helmet
  • Carbine (sling, flashlight and 3 magazines)
  • Pistol (flashlight and 3 magazines)
  • Pistol belt (holster, magazine pouch, etc.)
  • 300 Rounds for pistol and 350 rounds for carbine
  • If available, bring a M4 Simunition upper receiver or bolt conversion and a Simunition pistol or conversion. If not available, one will be provided for you.
  • Eye & ear protection
  • Gloves
  • Student Requirements: Students are:
  • Required to actively participate in all classroom, range and practical exercises as part of their successful completion requirements.
  • Required to pass the SWAT Firearms test (Combined pistol and carbine) with a passing score of 80% in order to receive a course certificate of completion. Students that shoot a score below 80% will receive a certificate of attendance.
  • Required to pass the basic SWAT written test with a passing score of 80% in order to receive a course certificate of completion. Students that score below 80% will receive a certificate of attendance.
  • Required to adhere to all elements of the firearms and CQB safety briefs. Students that violate the firearms and CQB safety briefs may be removed from course.
  • Strongly encouraged to bring lunch for all five days. Due to the proximity of restaurants in relation to the training facility, there may not be adequate time for students to leave for lunch given the 1 hour lunch break.

 

 

Medical:   Students with medical conditions that may impair their ability to participate in training are responsible for contacting their physician for medical clearance prior to participating in training. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office will not assume responsibility for any students who do not seek medical consultation prior to course participation.
